Course Description

Course Over-view:  This course is designed for an experience chainsaw operator, aswell as indviduals who are new to chainsaws and intend to use them for business, domestic or leisure activities. It is suitable for those seeking contractual work in professional forestry, amenity or arboricultural activities which is likely, immediately or at some future date, to involve felling trees over 200 mm (15”) in diameter.

Please be advised that this is a 5 day course typically Mon-Friday, with assessments taking place on the Saturday of that same week.

Course Content:

  • Maintenance of the chainsaw
  • Carry out operational chainsaw checks
  • Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
  • Cross-cut timber using a chainsaw
  • Fell and process trees up to 380mm
  • Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
  • Remove branches from felled trees using a chainsaw

The college have limited PPE equipment for this course and it is not possible to purchase before hand. A full list of equipment needed along with specified PPE will be provided once you have signed up to the course.

Entry Requirements

Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Candidates must be at least 16 years old in order to operate a chainsaw.
