Type of Learner: The qualification is aimed at those who use brush-cutters or trimmers as part of their work, either in horticulture, arboriculture or forestry.

Course Description

Qualification Overview:

This qualification covers the use of brush-cutters or trimmers, covering pre-use checks and maintenance, identification of controls and instruments and operating the machine to cut or trim to the capacity of the machine.

Unit 253 Trimmer and brush-cutter operations   
1. Know how to carry out a risk assessment   
2. Know the health and safety legislation that underpins trimmer and brush-cutter 
operations 
3. Know the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for trimmer and brush
cutter operations 
4. Know the health and safety features of the equipment being used 
5. Know how to maintain the trimmer / brush-cutter 
6. Know how to operate a trimmer / brush-cutter 
7. Understand different operating techniques 
8. Know how to store equipment safely and appropriately
