Course Description

This course is designed to follow on as a natural progression from the tree climbing and aerial rescue courses offered by City & Guilds NPTC. The course will prepare candidates to undertake assessment in the Level 3 Award in Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw Using Free-Fall Techniques

Please note that to undertake this unit candidates must have passed units 30, 31 & 38 (Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting, Award in Felling & Processing Trees up to 380mm and Award in Accessing a Tree Using a Rope & Harness and Award in Aerial Tree Rescue Operations)

Course Content

To pass this qualification candidates need to successfully achieve all the following assessment activities:

  • Health and safety and industry good practice
  • Carry out aerial cutting of trees with a chainsaw using free-fall techniques
  • Understand relevant health and safety, legislation and industry good practice
  • Understand how to carry out aerial cutting of trees with a chainsaw using free fall techniques

Course Requirements

Learners must be physically fit and not suffering from vertigo or similar conditions or on medication that could affect their safety. The minimum age limit for Candidates taking Certificates of Competence is 16 years. There is no upper age limit.
