This course covers the 2 basic chainsaw units required by those working or wanting to work in Forestry, Tree Surgery or Arboriculture

Course Description

This course is designed for experienced chainsaw operators as well as individuals new to chainsaw work who intend to use the chainsaw for business, domestic or leisure activities. It is suitable for those seeking contractual work in professional forestry, amenity or arboricultural activities which is likely, immediately or at some future date, to involve felling trees over 200 mm (15”) in diameter.

The course cost includes 5 days of training leading to the NPTC Certificate of Competence assessment. 

Course Content

  1. Maintenance of the chainsaw
  2. Carry out operational chainsaw checks
  3. Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
  4. Cross-cut timber using a chainsaw
  5. Fell and process trees up to 380mm
  6. Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
  7. Remove branches from felled trees using a chainsaw

Entry Requirements

Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Candidates must be at least 16 years old in order to operate a chainsaw.
