City and Guilds Level 2 Award in Sit Astride All-Terrain Vehicle Handling.  This qualification aims to provide the learner with the knowledge, skills and understanding to ride or drive their ATV safely in the work place.

Course Description

The qualification covers pre-use checks, instrument and control recognition, safe driving and manoeuvring the vehicle on various types of terrain including slopes.

The qualifications have been specifically designed to meet the diverse needs of learners who use ATV’s in a variety of circumstances. This is the level at which industry recognises learners have achieved competence to use these machines.

Course Content

• Carry out pre-se safety checks and operations
• Be able to operate and ride/drive the ATV
• Identify any hazards specific to the site, task and machine
• Describe the function of all controls
• Carry out daily pre-use checks to the ATV
• Describe legal and safety requirements
• Outline the factors to be considered when operating an ATV on various terrain
• Demonstrate knowledge of operating an ATV that is laden on various terrain
• Ride/drive the ATV around a specified course
• Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning and inspection of the ATV and reasons for cleaning

Entry Requirements

The minimum age limit for Candidates taking Certificates of Competence is 16 years. There is no upper age limit.
